Somewhere in the corner of a dark, desolate tavern sat a young woman cloaked in the darkest of ebony, her keen eyes scanning the premises. Her arms folded and her feet perched comfortably on the table top, she took another long draught of her chamomile tea, taking in its familiar aroma and reveling in her own solitude. The journey here went as planned, save for the few foolish pirates who made an attempt to ransack her ship. How foolish they were… she thought idly, the ghost of a smug smirk tugging at the corner of sculpted lips. Let it be said that "Nim'Gerth" and Ithilwen were once again reunited...
Setting down the chamomile tea, she removed her boot-clad feet from the table. Furtively fingering the outline of the tatoo wings on her back, she rested her chin on the tops of her folded hands, closing her eyes in relaxation. Soon, she thought to herself. Very soon, indeed…
It had been about thirty, pain-staking minutes since her ship had docked, and still there was no sign of this so-called instructor of hers. She pulled her long, black traveling cloak tighter about her slender frame as she recalled the brief walk through the woods at the back of the tavern. It was chilly outside, although she minded it not, for she preferred the bitter chill of a downcast, rainy day to the welcoming warmth of a summer sun. The forest was thick with life and alive with wonder- it’s many creatures that dwelled from within poked their curious heads out from the comfort of the underbrush or a hole in the tree to stare at the tall, pointy-eared newcomer with probing eyes that eerily reflected the faint light that managed to escape the grasp of the thick trees from above. Somewhere in the distance-although human ears would never be able to perceive the sound- a babbling brook meandered its way through the rich, fertile soils leading to a larger body of water further off. Ithilwen had recalled how the pale, morning light of dawn danced across her frost-white skin, how the gentle caress of a soft breeze entangled its friendly fingers in her silver tresses, how the spirit of the forest called out to her very blood. Yet, she had come to these lands for a single purpose and a single purpose alone. Her parents had sent her here in hopes of having their daughter learn some discipline, to break her rebellious spirit so that she may return to her lands a civil, well-behaved princess. The young avariel couldn’t help but chuckle to herself. They’re in for quite a rude awakening…
Ithilwen’s icy orbs re-opened slowly. She could sense it- another presence, yet this one did not belong to any of the tavern’s customers. It was simply…different, in a way that she could not explain in the feebleness of mere words. The princess leaned back in her chair, her arms folded across her chest and the dark hood of her cloak obscuring her features. Well, it’s about time...

Kerret Garretway moved into the tavern, stumbling on a... well, he must have tripped on something anyway... and waving his arms for balance momentarily. He was a steady six foot four, and garbed totally in white. A tight white shirt modestly displayed his muscular chest, though definitely not enough to win any awards, with loose pants, and these were covered in a sleeveless trench coat, which reached to just above his heel. Bandages, though he wasn't hurt, were wrapped around his neck almost scarf-like, and others wrapped all the way down his arms to his palms securely.
He stood in front of Ithilwen, running a hand through his peculiar hair, which was made up of many short spikes, sky blue at the roots and purple at the tips.
"You're... One second..." He retrieved a note card from the pocket of his trench coat and looked it over, "Ithilwen. It took me a while to find you, sorry," he apologized. "My name's Kerret, and I'll be your Master Teacher at Twilight Moon Academy."

How peculiar...Ithilwen thought to herself. He was interesting, to say the least. She had never seen quite a character such as he- this Kerret, as he calls himself. She brought down her large, dark hood and scrutinized him more carefully. He would appear to be trustworthy. So...Twilight Moon Academy, eh?
Ithilwen flicked back the long french-braid that plaited her lengthy, silver locks and stood before him. He was about a full 4 inches taller than she, so she needed to slightly elevate her head to look him in the eye. Inclining her head-as was the polite custom of this society- she spoke in a low, airy voice that was borderline sultry. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Kerret. Mae govannen (Well met) And if you don't mind, I might ask if I could bring along two close companions on our journey. They should be somewhere in the outskirts of the forest." Her large, blue eyes were fixed on his as she awaited his reply.

Kerret noticed she was really quite nice looking, but he was a teacher after all. He smiled though, because Gerro was always talking about... well... not taking the teacherly approach. Gerro was a rather odd teacher anyway. He thought about her request. "Companions? I'm afraid I'd need more detail there," he confessed.

She chuckled briefly- a light, whimsical sound. "I was referring to my pets. A wolf and a silver falcon. I can promise you that they would be no trouble, as they are very obedient." She thought of her 2 traveling companions, how they were probably waiting for her somewhere on the forest path. Thalion would be sitting tall and straight, his amber eyes staring fixedly at the tavern in stoic repose- his feathered comrade perched elegantly in a tree above, his head tucked into his chest while azure eyes scanned the area.
"They should be expecting me."

Kerret nodded saying, "Alright, we can pick them up, but we should really be in shipyard. Classses have already started at school, and we wouldn't want you to be behind, huh?" He started towards the door of the tavern, but accidentally stepped on the tavern's own Scruffy the Cat, pest purger and guest bouncer of the tavern. A mighty yowl escaped its throat, and Kerret received three gashes in his leg, right through the pants. Scruffy glared at him from under the bar, daring him to try anything else. More embarrassed than in pain, Kerret's face was a bit pink, but he opened the door out into the cool air.

Ithilwen mentally laughed to herself, not wanting to embarass the poor man even more than he already was. She shook her head furtively and compsed herself as she followed Kerret through the doorway, Scruffy glaring daggers at their backs as they left.
The avariel advanced on the exit, revelling on the fresh, cool air that sent a nice sensation through her skin. She turned towards the forest, and sure enough, there sat Thalion, the great white wolf himself and the large, feathered form of Valorion. Thalion was, as she had predicted, staring expectantly at her while the bird of prey sat in the tree, but when the wolf saw Kerret, his ears flicked forward in curiosity........and caution. He growled softly to alert the falcon- who had been snoozing in the morning sun- and trotted towards Ithilwen and the strange man.
Obviously, he concluded, (although the wolf's mind knows no words) if this man had gotten so close to his companion and lived, he was apparently trustworthy. He sat himself in front of the Princess, although his wise, golden eyes were set on Kerret in caution. A shrill call came from above as Valorion-who had apparently been awakened- descended down from the sky to land on Ithilwen's gloved, outstreched hand.
Turning to her teacher, Ithilwen stated, "Lead the way."

Ithilwen had exotic pets, to be sure. Kerret was a bit nervous with her wolf, but many students at the school prided themselves in their pets; someone even had a leopard... or a cheetah... something like that.
They walked for a while until the path deteriorated and the landscape grew dreary. A thick fog came upon them, and the slate colored lake edge ate at the pebbles of the shore. The ancient remains of a dock, eaten by sea-worms and gray algae alike, thrust itself out of the water, though it looked about to collapse. Personally, this place always gave Kerret the creeps. There was no actual purpose to creating a haunt infested shipyard, so something must have happened here to forever blot the sun from the rocky shore.
"Would you fly, or should I rent a boat?" he asked, looking back at his student.

The Shipyard was no paradise, that was for sure, but Ithilwen was unfazed...she had seen far worse before. Far worse...
The very air was thick with the stench of mold and decay, and the water was so murky that one would peer at it and not be able to see the bottom. Ithilwen eyed the dock wearily, not sure that it would support both her and Kerret, but it did, although the soggy wood protested with a loud creak and swayed slightly.
"I would fly, and how you knew that I can fly is beyond me, but I am curious. How do you plan on getting across?"

"It was on your profile that they gave me," he shrugged. "Don't worry about me though; I've got myself covered." With no warning he jumped into the air, floating there as if it were no problem. He kept a steady and tightly controlled current of wind around him to keep himself afloat, but the only indication of this was the swaying of his coat.

"Profile, eh?" She turned away, her eyes narrowed. How dare my parents put about my information for the whole world to see. At this point she turned back to him after muttering some colorful words under her breath and was taken aback to see her teacher floating in midair, his overcoat billowing out below him. He flies, yet he does not have wings? Hmm...Ah, I see. He is manipulating the air currents"
Ithilwen shed her cloak and let it slide to the ground, listening to how the piece of clothing made a slop! sound as it landed on the muddy soil. After adjusting Nim'Gerth on her back a bit, Ithilwen hunched over slightly when suddenly, two gigantic, white wings erupted from her back, parting the skin as they made their way through. She flapped them slowly then extended them up, flexing the taut muscle. "It feels good to stretch them once again," she pointed out. She leaped into the air as far as her haunches would propel her and hovered beside Kerret, Valorion close to her side. Thalion, having no wings and no ability to control air currents, would be traveling on top of the grimy surface of the water underneath the air-borne company. His large, splayed paws able to keep him afloat as he runs across the surface. The avariel spoke to Kerret above the steady beat of her massive, silver wings, "Whenever you're ready."

Kerret shifted the currents and headed towards the far shore, where Twilight Moon Academy awaited. The sky above was a leaden gray, almost appearing twilight, even though it was day. "Oh yeah, I have to get your schedule for classes, Ithilwen. There are a few classes you need to take, but there are also a few electives. You can choose from History, Life Skills, Music, Potionry, Puppetmaster, Samurai, and Study Hall. Any of them interest you?"

Once again, Ithilwen felt the cool rush of air as she took off in flight, the muscle in her wings protesting at first and then gradually becoming looser with every beat. Her acute sense of vision showed her that far off in the distance, Twilight Moon Academy's large, dark silhouette sat boldly upon the horizon. It was going to be quite a flight...
The wind whipped around her lengthy braid, causing a few stray pieces to become loose and fall out of place. She took a deep breath. It felt great to be in the air once more...
"Several of them interest me, actually. How many may I choose?" She replied.

"As many as you want," he assured her cheerfully. Overall this was a good day for him; some students could be really mean. This one, though a little lofty as elves sometimes were, was pretty nice.
The school rose out of the mist like a gigantic mountain of stone, with many twisting wings and random towers. The whole school gave off an appearance of something very old and sturdy, a safe place after a storm. Kerret had lived there for half of his life, and it was always nice to return, no matter how short the trip that had kept him away.
