Arion shivered, and bit her lip as she looked around. It was cold, and stormy, not good weather at all. While another shiver, she started walking again. If she kept going, she would be warm, or at least, warmer. The shipyard was erie, and she didn't like being there with only her fox cub, who was walking beside her. She walked gingerly, as she didn't want anything to break, and send her to a very early death.
With no idea what was going to happen, she took out her letter. She obviously needed it for anything to happen, so if it was out in the open, perhaps something would happen. With those thoughts, she read it again, for lack of anything else to do. It was a very prompt letter, and she had everything it required, and nothing that was forbidden. She looked down at her fox again, and picked him up.
He looked at her, and snuggled into her. They were both cold and wet. Arion only though that if something didn't happen soon, she would probably just leave. She was going to get sick at this rate. Slowly, she sighed, and shifted the bag on her shoulders. Then she shivered once more.

A soft haze of colorful light emitted from the air, creating a dome-like sphere over Arion, shielding her from the water. The air nearby the girl seemed to blur, and the figure of a robed woman appeared. The person was wearing thin white robes with a silver lining on the edges. Beneath the hood of the robes was a calm face with silver eyes and white hair that stopped at the base of her neck. In her hand was a sole staff.
The woman bowed to Arion, "Arion, welcome to Twilight Moon Academy. Is what I should be saying over there..." She laughted, looking at the seemingly never ending water. She looked back at the girl, "Shall we set off to the school?"
Without waiting for an answer, the woman held the staff into the air. The tip of the wood split open, revealing a clear orb. The orb misted white, then shone brightly. As a white cloud began forming above the woman, she looked at her student, "I'm Lana, by the way. I'm your Master Teacher, who will assist you in learning how to control your powers better, and such."
She tapped her foot, "And I'm summoning our ride, only he seems too lazy to come quicker."

Arion looked around her in surprise as the dome of light covered her. She was glad to get out of the rain, but what was happening. She supposed that it must be someone from Twilight Moon Academy to take her to the school or something, but she wasn't sure. As she held her fox close to her, she looked around, not sure what to do.
Then, a woman emerged with robes on. As Arion looked into her eyes, she widened her own. The woman's eyes were a very beautiful silver, or they looked that way to Arion. The girl's own mismatched eyes didn't seem to compare to the woman's.
At the woman's words, Arion knew that she was safe, and nothing bad was going to happen to her. She smiled, and looked closely at the woman. Then she nodded, in answer to the question, though the woman hadn't waited for an answer.
Arion bowed to Lana as the teacher told Arion her name. Arion smiled a little again.
"I am Arion Ambrose, but I suppose you knew that already. Wait... summoning our ride? Aren't we taking a boat?" Arion asked, tilting her head.

Lana laughed, shaking her head, "Nah, it's faster to ride a summon. Ah! Here he comes!!"
The white cloud suddenly sunk into the water, as if something had sucked it in. A moment later a long horn appeared on the surface, closely followed by the body of a creature. It's body seemed to be made of Sapphire, its eyes diamonds. A long trail of spikes trailed down its back.
Lana hopped onto it's back and seated herself. A spike wrapped itself around her waist, to prevent her from falling off.

Arion peered out into the water when her teacher explained. She watched as a cloud sank into the water. She jumped back a little when the spike appeared. The body that followed it was beautiful, and Arion gasped a little at it. It was huge, at least to her it was, and she felt herself go a little pale.
"Uh... um..." Arion bit her lip a little. Mistress Lana didn't expect her to ride it, did she? It was huge, something she had never seen before. While Arion usually wasn't a nervous person, this thing sent warning messages to her brain. She gulped.
Amarus, what would you do? These conditions are so... weird. I need you to be with me, but you're not. I wish you were. Well... I can't be afraid forever, can I? I suppose that I have to go... Yeah, watch over me, Amarus, Arion thought nervously.

Lana peered at Arion curiously, "No need to be scared! This guy here is harmless. Out of battle, of course. I use him mainly for transportation. Come on, on! The spike'll hold you so you don't fall off."

Arion gathered up her courage, and her fox, and, after another moment of hesitation, mounted the large creature. A spike wrapped around her waist, securing her in place.
What is he? Arion asked herself, looking around at everything, And who is she, really? I don't know anything of this school, and it's making me even more nervous. What if I don't like it?
Arion looked down, and with a quick motion, secured her flute. It was the only thing she had to protect herself, and she couldn't risk losing it. Her fox, as nervous as she was, was in her lap. He was also very securely in, and wouldn't go flying off. Arion hugged him, even so.

The woman twisted around, the spike moving with her, until she was facing her student, "Now, I bet your bursting with questions. Most students have asked me about a hundred by now! So go on, ask me anything ya want."

All of the questions seemed to melt, as Arion grew shy and nervous. She licked her lips, and remained silent. She couldn't think of an answer. Finally, she managed to say, "N-not really, Mistress."
She did have hundreds of questions, but they all seemed insignificant and easily solved by common sense. There was one, one that had been nagging her ever since she had gotten her letter. She gulped and licked her lips again, looking at her teacher, "Um... I would... I would like to know... if my sister would have... you know, been accepted... had she-"
Arion stopped, unable to continue. She looked away, and that should have been sign enough. Arion wanted to know if her sister would have even gone through the same things that she was about to embark on.
"I... I miss Amarus...." Arion whispered, very barely audible. She continued to look away, tears gathering in her eyes. This was not the way to start out something new, and Arion knew that... But, she missed her sister so much, it hurt.

Lana softly patted her shoulder as music began playing from the Summon's spikes (song- Pravane. Listen to it!!!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMbRU_j2N1k ), "Well, you can't exactly... not get accepted into here, after all, you have to be invited! My turn- where'd you come from?"

Arion looked up at the music started to come from the Summon. It flowed over her softly, and made her feel more at peace, just a little. It was very beautiful music, and Arion had an urge to learn how to play it. It could never work on flute, she decided... More like on a lute or something.
Arion watched Lana as she explained how you were invited. While it was an answer, it wasn't an answer that Arion expected, and she was still a little confused about if her sister would have been invited. But... whatever, perhaps it was better for Arion not to know.
"Greece... I came from Greece," Arion answered. She looked down again. Her family was a 'magical' one, because a person in every other generation was picked to be the bearer of the Flute of the Ambrose at a very young age. Then that person was trained - not taught - in music from before they could walk or talk. Still, she hadn't been around people who had 'magical' abilities before, and didn't know what to expect with this school. Her parents completely approved of going somewhere where her sister had never ventured, but for Arion, it made it worse.
Arion looked down at her fox cub in her lap, and he made huge eyes at her. She smiled a trifle, because of how cute it was. She pet him, and then laughed, just a little, "You know, bards and musical people in general are supposed to be good with words, but I still haven't chosen a name for this little one."

Lana smiled warmly at the fox, "You'll be a favorite student of mine, I can already tell. I have a soft spot for animal-lovers and musical students, and you're both." She smiled again, "Names are extremely important... Don't rush into it too fast it you're unsure."
After a soft pat on the Summon's back, she spoke again, "I haven't named this one here yet. He was the most recent summon I've learned, so I decided to learn more about his personality. See, if I had named him Fang or Killer, or something along those lines, It would've been ackward, since he has the sotest heart in the world, and eats only veggies." She laughed, then spoke as serious as she could, "I've heard Greece is extremely beautiful. Never been there, but I've wanted to. I came from... well, it's far away. Tell me about your powers!"

"Um... Well, I don't really have any powers.... My playing does. I have a store of energy that any magical instruments can tap into, or so my grandparents told me when they gave me my flute. I... don't really know how it works. I just know it does..... For example, when I play this flute, and I let it tap into my energy, it protects me with a lightning shield... My grandparents say it might do more as I learn control, but I don't know. The flute doesn't do anything else for most of its players.... There was only one case of it doing something more in this century, so... I won't get my hopes up..." Arion said. She realized that she had run away with explaining. Embarressed, she blushed and looked at the surronding ships. She was a shy person, so she didn't know why she had started to babble. And she already had a sense of trust in this person before her.

Lana put her hands together, then put her chin on top of it, smiling, "I'd say that's a power. You should meet Méla, she's also a bard. Well, Arion, do you think an average person could pick up a flute and protect themself? Nope! You're gifted and that's how you can do magic by music. Now, for my powers, I don't know if you could tell or not, I'm a White Wizard. I know I'm female, but witches differ from Wizards, believe me."

"A... white wizard?" Arion looked at her, her eyes a little wide. She didn't know anyone with magic, and this was new to her. She licked her lips, "I didn't know that there was a difference."
She cleared her throat a little, and, with her mismatched eyes on Lana, asked, "Is everyone I meet in the school gifted with... magic?"
The concept scared Arion a little, as she had only heard of her own musical magic, and of magic in fairy tales. She looked down at her hands, and then a memory came to her very suddenly, though it didn't have much to do with the conversation.
"Arion, my darling," it was her grandfather speaking, "You are special, very special. You're not an ordinary human."
"What do you mean, Grandpa?" Arion had asked, her young face full of trust of the older man. She smiled, "Of course I'm an ordinary human! Maybe I have that 'power' you talk of, but I'm still ordinary."
Her grandfather looked at her mother a little sternly, but Arion was completely oblivious of the fact. Then her grandfather took her mother into another room. Arion tried to listen in.
"You've got to tell her," her grandfather was saying as Arion put her ear to the door.
"But, Father! I want her to grow up a normal human child!" her mother's voice was strained a little.
"She's not ordinary! While she isn't full blooded, half of her is like us. She's only half human!" her grandfather's voice was colored with anger.
Arion hadn't stayed at the door to hear the rest, but went to her room. Half human? She was a full-blooded human, right?
Arion shook her head, and looked at Lana again, "Um... are there different races in the school?"
While Arion still didn't know it, she was part-immortal. She only knew that she wasn't fully human, as she had gotten that information from the years she had spent with her grandfather. And while she didn't know what other races there were, with her knowledge, she assumed that there were many. Arion pet her fox again, waiting for the answers to her questions.
