Cyndon woke slowly from his dream as he slowly got out of his bed. He looked at his reflection in the mirror and realized his last day of school was today. It was summer of his tenth year of age, and he was raring to go for the last day. Shin was talking about going to the tavern afterschool with his parents to celebrate (with no real drinking age at this castle town, it was possible...) and he had offered for Cyndon to come with, but he politely refused. He wasn't interested in drinking as it was, but who knew what the future held...
Cyndon showered and dressed as his mother called up to him.
"Cyndon! Breakfast!"
"Coming!" He called out as he brushed his white hair straight down. He put his pentagram earring in his ear as he walked down the stairs into the lower part of his house. His father was probably already gone to work, and his mom was busy getting ready herself. She was a short woman, probably around 5'4" and Cyndon had already passed her up at about 5'6". She had long flowing white hair and her pale skin seemed to glow in the sunlight coming from the windows.
"So today's your last day... bet you're excited!" Cyndon's mom questioned as she got the final notes for her job as the king's advisor ready. Cyndon laughed as he scratched the back of his head.
"Yeah, well... it means i'll have more time to hang out with friends... but it also means i won't have a way to learn much." Cyndon admitted as his mom lit up. She had all the luck, having a child that loved to learn new things. She rushed out the door, knowing that Cyndon would easily make it to class on time. He finished his breakfast rather quickly and rushed off to class.
The day was rather uneventful, even for the last day. Nobody tried their normal tricks to ring in summer either. It wasn't until Cyndon got home from school that he found that his summer was going to start off with a bang. There was a letter left addressed to him, which was far from normal. What made matters even stranger was the fact that it was from the Castellan.
To one Cyndon Kouvindao:
It has been brought to our attention that there is something out of the ordinary about you. Don't be alarmed, it is nothing negative. As a matter of fact it is quite positive, however it is also possible that you will be attacked for it. We have taken this into account, and we have a way to both test our thoughts and protect you from harm. You have been invited to come to the castle and meet with Castellan. There you shall be given the Crystal Sword, and when at the correct age, we shall send you out to the illustrious Twilight Moon Academy!

Cyndon's jaw hit the ground. His father had just walked through the door as he had gotten off of his job at the king's courtyard as the caretaker. He was tall, practically 7' tall, and his dark skin seemed to soak up the light. He looked over at Cyndon noticing his manic behavior and finally asked:
"What's going on, Cyndon?" He kneeled down to Cyndon's level and held him still from bouncing around the house long enough to get him to answer.
"I - I - I've been invited to the CASTLE! I'm to go in and meet the Castellan!" Cyndon positively squealed with delight, and his fathers eyes lit up.
"My son, a guest of honor! I can't believe it! You had better get out there as quickly as possible!" He rushed Cyndon out to the castle as quickly as possible to get to the meeting.
The castle was humongous, made almost entirely out of marble and it seemed that everything glowed with an unnatural light. There were long trenches on either side of the hallway where water flowed freely, even UP stairs. Wherever there was a door, a large heavy metal grate was placed over the trenches to give people a way to the doors. There were fountains at almost each intersection of hallways in the castle, and many of the people bustling around were quite buzy cleaning rooms, preparing meals, and even carrying papers from room to room.
"Cyndon Kouvindao," His mother's voice echoed down from a nearby hallway, and he immediately swiveled around to meet her gaze. "It is time for your meeting. Follow me." She led him to the large room that held the Castellan and closed the door behind herself as she left.
"Cyndon... My child... come forth... it must be scary meeting with someone of my stature." Cyndon gulped audibly as he walked further into the dark room. There were large red velvet curtains drawn over the windows to block out all light, which made Cyndon wonder.
"Is there a particular reason you have these curtains drawn...?" Cyndon was brutally direct with his question. "Not to mention you never make proclamations yourself. I have a feeling there's something you haven't been telling the people." The Castellan laughed and as Cyndon's eyes were adjusting to the lack of light he saw long fangs glint in the darkness.
"Yes. It is true. I am a Vampire. Funny to think that a Vampire could rule a kingdom so prosperous, No?" Cyndon was a little nervous now. Was he going to be fed upon?
"Fear not, child. I have no interest in feeding, i don't feed on people to begin with. You truly are here to test out the idea that you are to have this sword." As the Castellan pulled the sheet away from the crystal sword its glow pierced the darkness and the Castellan let out a noticeable groan as the light hit him. He was dressed in crimson red velvet clothes with a lapel pin of the castle's crest; a crane with a sword in its beak. The crystal sword seemed to pulsate the closer Cyndon got to it, until finally he picked it up and the light intensified.
"It's chosen you after all, Cyndon! This is a glorious day! From now on keep on the alert for many other Vampires. Some of them are of a family that despises me, and if they know you have inherited the sword that could destroy their hold, they would stop at NOTHING to have it!"
From that day on Cyndon has been a little distrustful of some Vampires... However he knows the region they come from and as such, knows when not to be trusting. The sword has never left his side and hopefully never will!
