CH #1. First Steps on Campus.
I feel cold, frozen. Ice cold water pushing me back, waves striking my face. Many thoughts are streaming through my head. About what I had just done, who I have left, and if anyone would miss me. My eyes shut tight, freezing water bursting against my eyelids. Pictures of my past flashing through my head; everything that happened, every depressing moment. My mind flashing back to the first year everything changed, everything fell apart. The year I looked misery and pain in the face. Time to tell the story, of how I got to this point in my life. August 31, 2005. The year everything went from normal to out of control. It was beginning my freshman year in college. Normal Kali Henderson. I had survived High School with flying colors. Lived through four years of exams, perverted boys, and bitchy girls. I was one of those girls who fit into every clique, not just one. Friends all over the school, popular. My new medical college, Xavier Mansion, was a dream. Every single living thing in the area was as nice as ever. From the first moment I stepped out of the taxi onto the freshly swept concrete I had a feeling. A feeling which I can now recognize. The feeling of fate. I looked around and saw people stare at me, the newcomer, with curious eyes. Not many people attend this school, let alone many new people. Only three people were walking up the steps into the tall building. I was awakened from my staring when the taxi driver slammed his door shut. I turned to his direction when the heel of my shoe got caught in gravel. I let out a loud gasp when a hand from behind me took hold of my wrist. From the size of the hand I could tell it was a man. I turned to face the person who saved me, to stare into two topaz colored eyes. He was fairly pale, and his face was adorable. His raven black hair over his face, scattered strands curling out. He smiled at me, making me notice that I was gawking. “Thanks,” I muttered softly aloud, a slight blush lingering on my pale cheeks. He smirked slightly and released my wrist, regaining his composure. He was tall, probably a sophomore, but looked mature enough. This was the school, the absolute school of my dreams. No more immature, perverted boys. I wanted to wipe the slate clean, start fresh. Everything from last year was the past; things change. New state, new school, and new life. The start of life with new friends, and enemies. I noticed that the boy wasn’t moving, he stood still in place. I hesitated a moment, and remembered that I had not introduced myself. I needed to make a good first impression, especially with the boys. I held out my hand and leaned forward, closing my eyes and tilting my head slightly to the side. “Hey, my name is Kali H. I will be entering the Freshman class.” He took my hand and shook it softly and returned the smile, relaxing his stance and looking into my eyes. I heard the trunk door open and I blinked and turned. I had completely forgotten that I had only just arrived. “My name is James Colfer.” I stopped in my tracks and turned to face him again. His gorgeous eyes gleaming in the sunlight, still smiling at me. Nothing changed. I could hear the taxi man’s voice in the background, telling me to get my bags. I still couldn’t part my gaze from his. His voice. The most elegant thing I have heard since...ever. “Ms. Henderson, please.” My gaze broke from his, and I turned to receive my bags. My head still pounding. I have only felt this strange feeling once; the day both my parents died. Except, this feeling was different. Emotions were tingling in my brain, every single kind. “Sorry, and thank you!” I said, out of breath. I forced my head down, grabbing my bags. The smelly smoke from the taxi cab thrown into my face. I turned to face James again, and smiled. “Nice to meet you, James.” Since I was new I had to arrive at the front office early. I tightened my grip on my bags, preparing to leave the first person I met. I hugged one of my bags to my chest, staring back at him once more. “Well...I guess I’ll see you around? What grade are you entering?” His expression changed; leaving me speechless. He turned slightly and smirked, which gave me a sudden chill. I clenched my bag a bit tighter to my chest, shivering. “I guess you’ll find out...Ms. Henderson,” he replied, smiling, picking his feet up onto the curb. I opened my mouth to say something, but just stared at his back as he walked away. I closed my mouth and continued to stare at his Xavier Mansion Jacket, and swallowed all the words that I was going to say. I closed my eyes tight and smiled to myself. This was going to be an interesting year. I leaned down and grabbed my remaining two bags, one still tucked against my chest. I just met one boy and I am already excited. Who said that High School was the greatest years of your life? With just these first few moments, everything seemed as though it was a dream. I breathed in and took my first steps on campus, filled with confidence that would soon dwindle.

CH #2. Hallucination
I reached the front door of the school and noticed that a few girls sent me disapproving looks. I still smiled to myself and pushed one of the doors open, almost dropping one of my bags. Once I entered I viewed my surroundings; basically the same as the day I visited. I took a few steps forward to the center of the room and looked around once more, breathing in slowly. I was actually here, after all of my work. I turned to face the office and saw beautiful girl. She seemed young enough to be in my grade, but pretty enough to get senior men. She was smiling and took a few forms from the principal. I guess wasn’t the only new student to attend this year. I tossed my dark blonde hair off my shoulder and took a few steps and entered the office. The office had that old people smell, only to be filled with actual old people. I chuckled to myself and patiently waited till they finished talking, and spent my time reviewing my surroundings. His room was filled with pictures of young kids, probably his great-great-grandchildren. I read the name tag with the inscription “Mr. Lewis.” He seemed nice enough, wearing a smile throughout his conversation. He acknowledged my presence and let the young girl go. The bouncy blonde young woman smirked at me. I couldn’t tell if it was friendly or a warning. I smiled back and shook off my doubts, and sat in the soft cushiony chair. I put my bags down and sat up straight in my chair and waited for him to start. He shuffled around on his desk and picked up a few papers. “Ms. Henderson, I presume?” “Yes sir,” I smiled lightly as he looked up at me. He smiled and then returned to looking at the forms, skimming for any missed information. He stopped a moment and then continued to read again. His eyes stopped the side to side pace and he looked up at me again. He grabbed a few forms and tapped them on the table to make sure they were straightened out. “Okay, I will need these forms back by tomorrow morning before your first period. Is that clear?” He handed me a handful of forms and smiled. “Yes. Very clear,” I replied, placing the papers softly in my fresh new binder. “Very good. Here is your room key,” he said handing me a small bronze key, “You have two roommates; Emily Marie and Cheyenne Martin. Only one has arrived, so go and get to know her,” he seemed intrigued my my quietness as I scanned his features. “Yes sir,” I took the key and the piece of paper acquiring the room number and roommate names. I simply nodded, grabbed my bags and left. He seemed to like blonde bouncy girls more than a simple almost blonde young lady. I chuckled to myself and walked up a flight of stairs to the next level of rooms for freshman young women. “Emily and Cheyenne, beautiful names. Hopefully goes with their personality,” I muttered to myself as I got to my hallway. “I would say it matches with complete magnitude,” I turned to see a young woman, about my age, stepping off the elevator. She was fairly tall, and had the most piercing green eyes. Her gorgeous red hair was tied back tightly with a clip, revealing her freckle covered face. She smiled at me and pulled two mammoth rolling bags behind her, with two small ones attached. “Nice to meet you I am Emily Marie!” I returned the smile and placed my bags down softly and placed my hand in her direction. She simply stared at it and smiled. In that moment she dropped her bags and had her arms around my back embracing me. “We’re roommates! No need to be so formal!” I simply patted her back like someone would to an acquaintance and chuckled. Her voice sounded as though she were still in sophomore year, yet more sophisticated. A few wisps of hair flew into my face as the elevator door closed. Which made me remove my hand to separate them. She took this as a hint to stop, in which I was glad. “Nice to meet you Emily! I am Kali Henderson,” I said politely. I didn’t want another awkward moment so I picked up my bags and smiled. I was relieved when she took the hint to keep moving. She took hold of her humongous bags and walked next to me, her wheels squeaking behind us. I peered over at her once more and saw her attire, a gorgeous dress. She stopped for a moment and I thought she saw me looking and got the wrong idea. I stopped as well and looked up at her face. She looked confused and peered down at her piece of paper. I continued to walk and turned the corner, she followed along. I took out my key and unlocked the door and stepped inside. I dropped my bags on the counter and held the door open for her. She walked in one bag at a time and before we knew it we were all unpacked and giggling. We decided to go down stairs and see if anyone had seen Cheyenne Martin arrive. Emily Marie was having a great time, but was worried about her soon-to-be-roomie. We exited our room and headed toward the stairs. We kept chatting as we walked, telling each other what we were looking forward to in medical school. I opened the door and waited for Emily to go before me, smiling sweetly. She giggled and curtsied politely, walking before me. I bet a professor would ask us if we were drunk, but there wasn’t a teaspoon of alcohol in us; well at least not me. I strolled after her down the stairs, pulling on the rail as I went around the corners. Emily waited for me, and we both looked down the stairs and saw a young man. I squinted lightly to see him better and noticed who it was. It was James Colfer, still looking adorable. He was leaning up against the wall looking forward, he seemed to be thinking about something puzzling. We started walking again and Emily made a face at me, the sexy boy look. I smirked back and giggled loudly, nudging her arm playfully. When we got to the bottom of the stairs James was in the same position, puzzled. I guess he didn’t notice us jogging down the stairs, giggling and whispering. I turned away from him and followed Emily Marie out of the door, slowly. She opened her eyes wide and mouthed the words “Hottie” slowly. I smirked and turned to face him again, pausing when I saw his face. He was staring at me, smirking, with those topaz eyes. I blushed almost instantly and turned away fast, letting the door slam behind me. “Someone’s got a crush already,” she giggled loudly. “I do not, Emily Marie!” “Who said it was you?” she said, arching an eyebrow, smirking. I looked back at the door for a moment and saw his shadow on the wall opposite of the door. Emily put her hand on my shoulder, making me jump a bit, and whispered something in my ear. I turned to face her and smiled devilishly. “You’re kidding!” I said, my eyes wide. “Does it look like I’m kidding to you?” I turned back towards the door and then turned to face her again. I arched an eyebrow and walked past her briefly. I heard her shuffle behind me and I started to walk again. She matched her pace to mine and leaned forward, looking at my expression. I switched my gaze on her and smirked. We continued to walk and turned the corner silently. There was about ten people in the auditorium, either reading or talking about what they did over the summer. Emily and I walked into the room and sat down silently. I turned to face Emily, but she was looking around the room. I turned to look around as well and the room suddenly felt stuffy. I inhaled deeper and saw that other people seemed fine, as if the air was smooth. I closed my eyes for a moment and breathed through my nose trying to clear my head. “You okay Kali?” she said softly. “Yeah,” I said, my eyes still closed. The room went quiet again, Emily must be reading as well. I opened my eyes and everyone was staring at me, like I just made a loud noise and should be ashamed. I looked over at Emily and she was still reading. When I looked back at the other people they were reading as well. I blinked hard to myself and looked again, looking around the room. A light flickered on and off in part of the room. “Emily. You want to go back up-stairs?” I asked, a few people looking up at me again. “Okay,” she closed her hard-cover book and stood up. I looked around the room, still breathing heavily, while Emily placed her book into her bag. I stood up when she started to walk and trailed behind her, slowly. Each step I took towards the door felt heavy. I felt as if I was being watched from all angles, but every time I turned no one was looking. Emily and I stopped in the stairway and looked for James, but he was no where to be seen. Emily knew what I was thinking and looked at me with a smile. I just smiled back and we raced up the stairs, giggling, once again. We swung around the rails and kept bumping into each others hips. Every person we passed stared at us, but I had the eerie feeling that they were just focused on me. I tried to ignore it and raced along side my new friend, Emily Marie. I was having fun and it was just the first day. “Hey,” Emily said, huffing, “Don’t forget we have an assembly at five o’clock, ‘kay?” “I didn’t know but, thanks, for letting me know. Is it for the whole school or just for new students?” I asked, still walking up the stairs at a steady pace. “I don’t know, but I think it’s for the whole school,” she said, lifting her foot up onto the last landing of stairs. “Oh. I hope we don’t have to give a speech,” I stated, opening the door and swinging it behind me hard enough for her to catch it. “Same here,” Emily said, putting both hands into her back pockets. We both rounded the corner and saw a group of girls huddled in a circle. Emily and I looked at each other and just kept walking. We turned another corner into our room hallway and saw a young man walking in the same direction. My eyelids squinted over my dark brown eyes, trying to identify the mysterious person. I recognized his hair and stopped walking when he turned, gazed at me, and opened the door to our room. “Emily! Did you see that?!” I yelled in a hushed tone. “No? What are you talking about?” she said, looking at me funny. I ignored her response and ran forward, dipping my hand into my jean pocket. I pulled out the key and shoved it into the keyhole. Emily was at my side by now and helped me open the stubborn door. I raced inside and turned the corner bumping into someone. I blinked and backed up instantly, shaking my head. I looked in front of me and saw a girl, tall and pretty. “Uh, you’re excused,” she said in a snobby tone. “Sorry,” I said, almost stuttering. I curved around her and looked into the next room. No one was there. “Uh, are you Cheyenne?” I heard Emily say, puzzled. I turned and looked at the girl once more, sorry about what I just did. She seemed like the type where first impressions mean everything. In that case I failed miserable. “Yeah, you are?” she said, lightening up. “Emily Marie, nice to meet you. Uh...Kali you okay?” I switched my gaze to Emily, nodded, feeling stupid and fatigued. I swear I saw a man walk in here, but I can’t prove it so I wouldn’t even bother. I strolled over to one of the beds and laid down, the bed rocking beneath me. I listened to Emily and Cheyenne talking in the background. Cheyenne seemed nice enough, but was a bit too materialistic for me. I closed my eyes and thought about the moment right before we entered the room. Nothing seemed different, nothing like a hallucination. It must have happened, he must be in here right now. I opened my eyes again and got up fast, inhaling through my nose. “I’m gonna go to the bathroom, ‘kay?” I said, walking toward the bathroom door. “”Kay Kali!” I turned and was surprised that Cheyenne was the one who replied to me. Emily smiled at me and gave me a peace sign with a smile, worthy enough to be her Myspace default picture. I returned the smile and turned to enter the bathroom. I closed the door behind me and leaned against it. I breathed deeply and stared at the patterns on the wall. The room felt stuffy, like the auditorium did. I got up and walked over to the mirror, running my hand down the glass. I didn’t look sick or tired, I looked normal. I took off my jacket and hung it on one of six hooks. I turned and walked over towards the shower, kneeling next to it. I turned the water on and watched it slowly head toward the drain. “Why does he keep popping up?” I muttered softly to myself. I put a finger under the running water to feel the temperature and pulled out the handle. The shower started and made a screeching noise, steam fly up to the ceiling. I un-zipped my pants and pulled them off. I stopped abruptly and looked around the room. I still felt as though I was being watched, but no one was there. I eventually got into the shower, after pausing so many times. The warm water felt good on my skin, refreshing. The room wasn’t as stuffy as before, but still wasn’t clear. I felt the steam rise above my face as I inhaled deeply. I flipped my hair forward and massaged shampoo into my dark blonde hair. The water suddenly went ice cold and I jumped backwards, grabbing onto the curtain for balance. I jumped out of the shower and wrapped a towel around my body. My teeth chattered and I shivered a bit. I sat on the small carpet next to the shower and listened to the water run behind me. “Hey! Kali you okay?!” a voice yelled on the other side of the door. I turned my head toward the door and clutched the towel tighter above my chest. I could feel my heart pounding fast inside my chest. The pulsation could be felt through out my body. What is happening to me? Is this because of James or just a new school? “Kali?!” the voice yelled again. “Yeah! I’m fine!” “Okay! Just to let you know its four now, so we’ve got an hour,” the voice paused a second and I heard a soft sound behind the door, “Cheyenne and I want to go down stairs, want us to wait up for you?” I paused for a second and looked at the mist covered mirror again. Maybe a moment alone would be good. Time to breathe for a little while. I turned to the door again and loosened my grip on the towel, relaxing. “No, it’s okay! Go ahead! I’ll meet you in the auditorium!” I heard a shuffle behind the door and a slam. After that everything went silent, eerie, but calm. I took one hand off my towel and pushed it under the shower curtain. I removed my hand instantly, shaking it back and forth. The water was scalding hot, not warm, scalding. How could that happen? Didn’t I almost fall out of the shower buck-naked from freezing cold water? I got up and walked over to the mirror, staring into the mist. The tapping of water in the shower still screaming behind me. I stared down into the sink, thinking. I looked back up into the foggy mirror and hear a sudden sound behind me. My eyes searched the mirror, but nothing happened. My hands clenched on the towel as I turned to face the shower. The room was silent except for the pitter-patter of water. I squinted my eyes once more to search for any small movement. I shook my head back and forth, telling myself it was nothing. My hands remained clenched on the towel and I turned again to face the mirror. I heard the curtain move behind me and I saw a black figure move in the mirror. My eyes opened wide and I was speechless. I turned around and saw the shower curtain pulled all the way back. I can’t be hallucinating! I ran forward and stopped the water from splashing all over the ground. I nearly slipped as I ran out of the bathroom door into the main room. Nothing, nothing at all. I sat down onto the bed silently, my brain searching for answers. I peered over to the clock and saw the time. “Oh no,” I said softly to myself. It was four forty-five. I had fifteen minutes to dry off, get dressed and run down the stairs. I dashed back into the bathroom and dried my body quickly. How did forty-five minutes go by so fast? No one could answer my questions, I was alone once more. I ran down the stairs as fast as I could with out falling down, breathing frantically. I couldn’t get those images out of my head. The fast, black, mysterious image from the misty mirror out of my head. I kept wondering why James was on the freshman girls level, and why he appeared to be entering my room. He seemed nice, but too involved in such little time. Especially since we only talked once this whole day. I pushed open the door and rounded the corner, my wet hair splashing into my face. I ignore the coldness and kept walking fast. I saw a few people in the library and sighed heavily. I leaned against the wall and breathed in and out fast. I sat down and continued to breath strongly, hearing giggling in the background. I peered over to the big Analog clock and groaned. This clock said it was four thirty, but the clock in my room probably read five fifteen by now. “What the hell?!” I muttered aloud. “I don’t know,” I heard a voice say next to me, “you tell me.” I looked up and saw the man who I had been thinking about for the past hour. It was James Colfer again, smiling his usual smile. He sat next to me, one leg on the ground and then other in an bent upright position. He stared at me with those yellow tinted topaz eyes, gorgeous. All I could do was stare back at him, speechless once again. My wet hair dropped trickles of water down my cheeks. I could see his eyes following a few as they slid down onto my neck. His eyes flew back to mine, searching for answers. I opened my mouth to explain, but he cut me off with another question. “Why are you all wet?” As he said this he brought a hand up and dried a stray bead of water before it hit my neck. I froze and closed my mouth abruptly, searching his expression. His hand didn’t move from my face until I started to feel uncomfortable and turned away. “I took a shower,” I said softly, “what did you think I did?” I remained quiet and I turned back to look at his face, but he just stared at me. I wanted to ask him so many questions, but I felt uncomfortable. My eyes tensed and squinted a bit, trying to figure him out. “You really want to understand don’t you?” he asked me instantly after the thought came to mind. “Yeah. I do want to figure you out, James Colfer.” I said smiling a little. He smirked once again and got on his feet, chuckling a bit. I had so many questions and I wasn’t prepared to let him leave. I got to my feet immediately and stepped in front of him, staring into his eyes. I opened my mouth to say something but he held his hand up, halting me. “You do know what time it is,” he said, pointing up to the clock, “right?” I jumped to my feet and ran down the hallway, I only needed a glimpse to see the time. I don’t know why I was getting so entranced by him, but he has me trapped. Trapped in a glass case, with barely any oxygen left to breathe. I slowed my pace and jogged up to the door, happy that a few people were still entering the room. I walked in after the last group and listened to the silent whispering. Once I entered the room the whispering stopped completely. Every single eye in the room focused there attention on me. I turned, to make sure I wasn’t dreaming, and saw no one behind me. I walked forward again, even though I felt so uncomfortable. I almost decided to leave, but I had a feeling that it would be the worst idea. I continued to walk down the long, carpeted aisle. People started to look away, and I heaved a sigh.
