Phoenix summons a tornado and uses it to pick up anything brown nearby. Various materials from the bottom of a nearby lake, dirt or mud off the ground, and animal feces are all combined in a humungous glob surrounded by the tornado. This is then flung with the literal force of a tornado in her foe’s face, resulting in suffocation or, if her opponent’s mouth happens to be open in shock (as it often is), drowning. You get the picture. This is not only an effective, but also an utterly humiliating way to die.

Monkey Ladder
Found in abundance in the forests of her home, Monkey Ladder Liana is Phoenix’s weapon of choice. A remarkably strong but springy vine, it makes for an inconspicuous weapon. This fits with Phoenix’s style, which is all about surprise and innovations.
Phoenix occasionally uses ordinary vines as whips or beaters. She tries to avoid this, however, as she views such battle as distasteful and common. Much more often, she uses this special enchanted vine in battle. It contains all of the weather elements, saving her the time from summoning individual elements as she needs them.

Salvation Necklace
A single ruby hanging from a simple gold chain is all that protects Phoenix from harm. It was given to her by her mother as she lay dying from an arrow wound, her death brought on in a desperate attempt to save her only daughter.
The necklace protects Phoenix from all dark magic and yields off evil creatures, spells, and magic—as long as she stays true to the light side.

Bear Claw
This seemingly ordinary object once again reflects Phoenix’s style. The Bear is Phoenix’s patron animal. When Phoenix was still living in Cyneburga with her tribe, the Álfsól, she took part in a ritual that all elves went through upon reaching age 13. The details of this ritual are known only to the Alapai, and are not to be discussed here. All that can be said is that Phoenix emerged from this ritual with the courage and protection of a bear in her heart, and only a claw to show for it.
The claw gives Phoenix incredible courage in battle. From it, she can channel the energy and ferocity of the creature. Once she has been trained properly, it can also be used in shifting into a bear.

Phoenix is wispy, mysterious, and insubstantial, and yet at the same time solid and true. She is the essence of life-with her, you see what you want, and so may never get the truth. Many who know her say she is like a tree—her existence simply cannot be denied. And yet it is hard to know everything about her. At first glance, she seems simple enough- just a taller-than-average, slender, stunningly beautiful young elf-but at taking a closer look one sees there is so much more going on. So much so that many prefer to simply allow her to continue to be a mystery, rather than bother with the tedious and unrewarding task of unraveling her secrets.
It doesn’t help (her enemies) that Phoenix also looks very much like a tree. Long, curling red hair with green tints falls the long distance to her waist like autumn leaves. Her eyes are a mossy green set against the bark brown of her skin. Her nose is straight and long, followed by deep red lips and a strong chin. Her pointed ears stick slightly out from her hair, giving away her Elvin heritage (in case nothing else did). Phoenix often has a serious expression on her face, giving the impression that she is not one for joviality. Don’t be fooled. She is quick to crack a smile and even faster to join in some lighthearted fun. Of course, it is not good to engage in such activities when enemies are about, and as Phoenix spent much of her young life in danger, she has adopted this serious look.

Several months after this there was a disagreement within the Alapai (of which Elwood and Ambika were both members), or elf counsel, about whether Dark Magic should be used to defend the tribe. Elwood believed it should, Ambika believed it shouldn’t. This issue caused much fighting and dissent until all those who supported Dark Magic were forced to leave Cyneburga. Elwood left with Culkin. These exiles were filled with a longing for revenge and created Dubhthach Indrajal (DI). This group had one intent only: destroy the Alapai and retake Cyneburga. Their plan was to kill Ambika, who had become the tribe leader, as well as her daughter Adya (Phoenix), who would succeed her mother. In doing this they hoped to disrupt the tribe and create a civil war over the leading position. This would weaken the tribe and the Alapai and make it easier for DI to take control.
Elwood had at this point been made leader of DI. The Dark Magic had already corrupted his soul, if that is an excuse for his following behavior. He found his daughter Adya (Phoenix) and tried to kill her. She was only just saved by the bravery of her mother, who jumped in front of the arrow meant for her daughter. The rest of the Alapai arrived, too late for Ambika but just in time for Adya. Her name was then changed to Irawagbon, which means ‘the enemy tried to kill her.’ (just to make things more confusing.) Finally when she turned 13, she participated in the ancient ritual and gained the protection of the bear. Her name was changed to Aata, which means bear. (what else?)
Some say Aata (Phoenix) became a Druid because of the tragedy of her childhood, and the resulting long hours spent with nature. Others said she was just a freak of nature, and her father had been right to try and kill her. (Despite Druid being a common class for elves, none of Aata’s fellow tribe members had ever encountered one, and had become very suspicious of anyone different from them after DI). However it happened, it soon became apparent that Aata could control the weather. This could have come in handy, if Aata was the timid type who would make it rain when people were thirsty and summon the sun when they wished to play. Aata was not timid, and enjoyed sending tornadoes chasing after those who annoyed her or summoning huge amounts of rain when everyone else was trying to enjoy their picnic. After a while, though, Aata felt a restlessness in herself. She wanted to learn more about her powers, and how to control them. So when a rare traveler stopped at Cyneburga and told a tale of a school of magic, Aata begged to join him. And so she set off for Twilight Moon Academy, her name once again changed, to Boahinmaa, or ‘she has departed from her people.’
After several days of travel, Boahinmaa (Phoenix) discovered her fellow traveler was none other than her long lost brother Culkin. He had been found by a human family after his father died and was raised as their son. When he started exhibiting magical powers, the family got scared and abandoned the small boy at the steps of TMA. There he was taken in and taught. He had left to try and discover his true roots, but had turned around after he reached Cyneburga, realizing he didn’t know what he was looking for. Ironically enough, he had found it.
Meanwhile back in Cyneburga, Boahinmaa’s tribe members were feeling a little guilty about how they had treated her, now that she was gone. They decided to rename her (again!) Amara, which means eternal or unfading. By this they meant that in their hearts and minds, she and her story would live forever. Boahinmaa didn’t know this, and she probably wouldn’t have cared if she did. She decided to take matters into her own hands, and renamed herself Phoenix. Each time her name had been changed, it was as though the person she had been with that name had died to be replaced with a new person. If there’s one thing about Phoenix, it’s that she always has hope. She can always start over.
