The ancient boards gave a disconcerting moan as Ophelia took a cautious step onto them. Oh my, she thought, staring again into the dark water at the edge of the boardwalk. She didn't revel the thought of taking a swim here. But after another half step, then another, all the while in a stance ready to leap back to the shore at a moment's notice, Ophelia was finally convinced the dock would not collapse on her.
When she came to the edge, Ophelia stopped and really took in her surroundings for the first time since descending into the mist. This layer of fog was not so thick that she could not see, but it did lend quite a thematic element to the scene. The once beautiful, once loved and cherished boats swayed back and forth in the water, further chipping their faded paint on each other.
Ophelia lifted her face to the sky, letting the small droplets of water floating in the air settle on her skin. It was, she had to admit, quite lovely here, if unnerving. Tragic, even, a backdrop to a story of lost love and betrayal.
Well, I'm here. she called out, silently. So what do I do now? There was nothing that seemed even remotely like a school around here. A thought struck her; What if she had come to the wrong place?
That certainly wouldn't do. No doubt if she stayed here too long, she'd be dragged into the water and swallowed whole by something nasty. She's wait ten minutes for something, she didn't know what, but something to happen, then she'd leave.
Yes, that's what I'll do. She reassured herself once more. The atmosphere was starting to fray her nerves, ever so slightly.
