Azu sat, perched precariously at the very edge of the bridge. Her tail flickered gently while her ears swiveled around, listening. Her eyes were transfixed into the heart of the flames beneath her. Something about them captured her very soul. Her blue eyes glittered intensely. Azu stood up and became engulfed in a burst of her own sapphire tongues of fire. Her dark raven hair whipped around her head, driven by the forces of her magic. The tips of her fingers, tail, and ears became fringed with her everburning ice. Azu drifted off, her mind captive to the beauty of the raging heat.

"Be wary of the drop," said a soft, remote kind of voice. A short young man sat on the edge not too far from her, staring down into the abyss. The clothes he wore were of a heavy material, all black, but ragged to the extent that the tears were obviously not a decorative fashion statement. A dark cloak that seemed to have some design ripped out of it was worn despite the heat below, and his frame was unhealthily slim, even gaunt. Blood red hair obscured his face as he watched the flames dance below.
"Its reaches are deep," he added reflectively.

((Sorry!! I got on punishment over the weekend right after i vowed to use the computer more. I know... that was soooo smart of me.)) Azu looked back at the mess of rags that had come to stand beside her. Well you're an interesting one, aren't you?, she thought to herself. "Fire doesn't hurt me... it's you who should be wary,"Azu stated, almost mocking as if it were a fact known to any two year old. She smirked at him and jumped out onto a jagged rock that stood pointed out of the flames like a beckoning finger. Her tail flicked lightly as she landed. Azu's eyes glinted, their deep blue depths winking at the newcomer as she turned to look at him.

(It happens, no worries. ^^)
The young man's face lifted, looking at her for the first time. His eyes were so pale a blue that they seemed almost white, the delicate color mostly lost by the roaring inferno below. "Perhaps so," he said, agreeing with her distantly. Then, a question. "Why have you come here?" His face seemed completely unemotional, but not in a harsh or hard way. Instead, it seemed numbed by a sting of sadness, as if there was a deep icy wall separating them.

((apologies again.... i'm in nc now.... attending a funeral. gawd... life sucks.))
"Does it matter?" Azu replied, not sounding harsh either, just genuinely curious as to the relevance. "I had nothing better to do, so I thought I'd come visit this lovely little hell hole. We have something alike, me and this pit. We are both exist upon the energies of fire and ice and because of that people have a tendency to stay away from us," she answered his question almost as if she were really talking to herself. "I didn't think anyone else would show up.... I was almost sure of it," she continued, now directed more towards the figure beside here and then finished the sentence hastily to avoid offense, "Not that you're not welcome.... you can stay if you like. This place doesn't belong to me... people are free to come and go as they may." Azu drifted off again and the tongues of the flames seemed to crawl up the rocks to her, dancing around her rhythmically to a tune only she shared with them. "By the way, I'm Azu."

"Almost all things have similarities, if one pauses to compare," he responded. The young man stood and walked over toward Azu and the broken rock that supported her. There was only empty air and the fierce bite of fire below him, but he stood as if it was still solid ground, and the flame did not not touch him. "You are like the sky, sunny and beautiful, but out of reach. Or perhaps the earth, strong and steady, free with your might." His words were honest, but there was a faint humor to it, as if he realized how ridiculously poetic he was being.
"This is one of the few places that I may be," he said to her, explaining his presence. "A pleasure to meet you, Azu. Your name sounds familiar, one that would not be out of place in my hometown."

"A pleasure, eh?" she said back to him, a rare smile lighting up her face briefly, but then she turned serious again, "You still haven't given me your name, though." Azu moved so that her body was facing him and sat back on her heels so that she was balanced on the balls of her feet. Her almond eyes closed a little further in effort to listen and her ears were perked. Her tail continued to flick back and forth, scattering the flames around it.

The young man's head angled down, breaking away from her gaze to look at the fires below "I do not have a name right now that would hold me. There was once something that I was called by, but it should not be used again. For simplicity, you may call me whatever you wish, Azu."
It felt odd, conversing with someone else. Even odder still, to be staring down into the flames that he had gazed up upon not so long ago.

"I cannot just make up names for people I don't know. Can you give me something to start with?" Azu said, slightly confused by his answer. She never knew anyone who didn't go by any name. Always, there are people who don't have constant names, but everything she'd known went by something.

He seemed a bit bemused by the fact that names were so important to her, but the young man smiled slightly. It was an easy thing, to oblige. "I've ever been fond of the letter 'A'. Maybe a name that starts with that?" He stopped next to her, though not too close.

"'A'?" Azu wondered. What's so special about 'A'? "Well, how about this... I will give you a list of names starting with the letter 'A', then. You tell me which ones you like." Azu's mouth twitched at the corners, as if struggling not to smirk. She closed her eyes in concentration; her ears turned back slightly. Dropping herself into a sitting position with her knees held into her chest, she let her tail wrap itself around her. "Hmmm..." she let out a little noise, exaggerating the depth of her struggle, while still fighting the urge to smile. "How about Arith? Or maybe Azian...or Angelo... eh... Amery? Alec? Hold on... I know there are a few more I can come up with... uh, Axel?... all right, I'm all out." She opened her eyes back up and looked at him expectantly.

He listened attentively, pale eyes focused on her face. When Azu had finished her suggestions, the young man tilted his head slightly in consideration. "Arith," he said softly, trying out the sound. "I enjoy it... but..." The name sounded more familiar than the others, but another one interested him. "Angelo... " he said almost wistfully. "It sounds like 'angel'..."
"I think I will take that one. Thank you," he said with a grateful smile. The young man, now named Angelo, sat next to her so as not to be rude. "You are a curious person, Azu. Not only do you act differently, you have strange ears and a tail." Angelo did not say this insultingly; he was just pointing it out.

((OMG!!! I just now realized my signature box-thing is gone!!!!!! OMGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHERE'S MY SIG-BOX-THING?!!)) "Angelo," Azu whispered, his new name feather-light upon her breath. "Yes... well. I'm not exactly human, though, am I?" She laughed lightly, her sharp canines catching the light a little from the rare exposure. Closing her mouth again, she shifted her weight back on her haunches and let herself examine him. "Well, Angelo," she began, "You aren't exactly common yourself." She smirked again. This guy really was interesting if he actually had the ability to arouse any kind of emotion from her, even if it is just slight amusement.

(Yes, I had noticed that. I'm looking into it. xD)
"No?" he asked reflectively. "I suppose it matters on where you are coming from." Angelo's eerily pale eyes trailed down his skeletal form. "I could do to lose some weight," he said with a dry humor. "If you are not human, then what do you consider yourself?"

((Hmmm... u should really try to find my signature box. It might help with your question as to what i am. XP .... xxbahaumauntxx.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=createacharacter&action=display&thread=2772 )) "Elemental part-beast," she spoke matter-of-factly, "Or at least that's what they classify me as." Her canines showed themselves again as she flashed another involuntary smile. This guy was on a roll. She chuckled with a bit of the same dry humor he had just used. "Typical, isn't it? People jumping to name, denote, and classify dangerous anything thats even the slightest bit out of the ordinary." Her voice was steady enough, but it seemed to be supported by a wall of pain. There was an edge to it; clearly there, but hard to put a finger on.
