It hadn't taken long for the pair to reach the ancient ruins located just outside of the Naut'Shinder Village. Rei stood at the entrance, staring into the darkness that was no longer a comfortable distance away. she had tried to keep her arms from wrapping around her abdomen out of old habits by placing her hands in her pockets, but her fingers continued to twitch with anticipation. They'd be fine. One night... that's all. Just one night, and then both Rhyme and herself could proudly show up before the Tribal Leader and become members of the Village. Her seal was stilled strongly, well, sealed. At least, that's what she kept telling herself. there was always that horrid chance that she might lose control, but Rei refused to let herself think such things; especially when Rhyme would be against her all on his own. Especially when Rhyme was the last person she'd want to hurt because she lost control.
Struggling just a bit to keep her breathing at a regular pace, Rei looked over at Rhyme, tearing her gaze away from the mass of ruins before her. "Ready?"

Rhyme walked beside Rei, stopping next to her, giving her hand a squeeze. Letting her know it would be okay. This put his hand right over her seal as well, though he didn’t feel the same things she did. He just felt the heat from her body. He remembered a song about sealing a while ago, he just couldn’t remember it. He hopped he wouldn’t have to try to remember it.
“We should be fine, we can handle a lot together.” he said, giving her a strong grin.
Rhyme rose his other hand at chest level and focused, letting out a pure F-sharp note. As he did, a small orb of quickly moving ribbons condensed, forming a glowing ball of light to burn through some of the darkness.

Rei returned the smile as best she could. Rhyme really did comfort her a great deal, but that didn't stop the occasional shiver to ripple through her. She nodded. "Yeah, you're right; we can." The girl was very grateful for the light Rhyme was able to produce, the darkness no longer seeming so ominous. 'I won't lose it... I won't' she promised herself. But, what Rhyme may not know, was that whatever heat he may be feeling, was most likely, in fact, originating from the seal. Rei's skin, under normal circumstances, had a slight chill to it; another natural warning system she had against any breakout. The seal burned, making a sharp contrast with the rest of her, giving her more time to try and stop herself. Rei brought one of her hands- the one Rhyme had taken- away from her abdomen, leaving the other one to cover the seal; it would probably look slightly raw right now. Hesitating only a moment more, Rei slowly began to make her way into the ruins.
Her gaze flickered about, looking at all the different crumbling structures and odd shadows. She wasn't afraid of the dark; she basically lived with it. But, she was afraid of what might come out of the dark. "I hope we don't get lost..." To help keep her relaxed, Rei hummed very quietly to herself, concentrating on the tune instead of the things around her.

“It shouldn’t be that hard to find out way out when it gets light out again. I think it just looks this bad because its dark. These are ruins after all, so they wouldn’t have built it to get the people who lived here lost. At least we got the headphones so we won’t be able to get separated.”
Rhyme wondered how Rei could be so worried about the darkness, she could probably see better then he could in the near darkness that surrounded them. Still, the darkness had an strange life of its own. He figured though that when they hit the center of the ruins they could set up camp there and wait it out till morning.

((lol hey...is this supposed to be in the 'Warriors of the Soul' board? That's where all the other tests are >>))
Rei's humming stopped when she reached a crumbling wall that seemed to be in better shape than most of the others. She nodded absentmindedly in response to Rhyme, but all of her attention was focused on the structure before her. Very tentatively, her fingers traces over worn out carvings and patterns etched delicately into the weathered stone. That place... it felt very nostalgic. Where did Rei recognize it from? Did she recognize it at all? As her fingertips passed over a deep crack that erased what was left of the carving, Rei blinked and pulled away. She wouldn't dwell on it. Smiling a bit, she turned back to face Rhyme and his miraculous light. "So, what's the plan?" Rei never saw herself as much of a leader; independent, maybe, but not one to take charge.

((What do you mean? It is in there.))
“I was thinking that when we hit a good safe spot that can easily be defended we would just hunker down there and camp out for the night. Maybe build a small fire for warmth.”
His eyes zoned out as he took in the walls around him. There was a lot of history here, long forgotten. A few times though he could have sworn he heard something, a bit out of the normal humanoid spectrum, even for those with stronger hearing such as elves and the like.
“The age of the past is said in places to speak to the living.” he said very lightly under his breath, more to himself then to anyone else.

((*gasp* o.o *looks around suspiciously*))
Releasing one slow breath, Rei smiled and nodded. "Sounds good to me..." Her voice trailed off when her keen ears picked up on what Rhyme had murmured. After a moment of pondering over the statement, the girl walked back over to Rhyme's side to be closer to the light. She stared at the glowing orb for a moment or two and soon found herself humming quietly; she had been humming a lot since spending time with Rhyme. It calmed her.
Rei's gaze darted around with every sound she picked up on that had no apparent source. This whole place just made her uneasy, but why...? She decided to let it be something to think over while they explored. A good way away, just barely in line of Rei's enhanced line of sight, there were what appeared to be turns and corners. It was as if the place was just watching, waiting for them to slip up so it could swallow them. "Yeah, I could definitely go for a fire soon..." she said, trying not to sound apprehensive.

Rhyme gave her an odd look confused. I guess he wasn’t the only one to feel something there, though Rei couldn't see or hear it directly she might still be able to feel it. Most magic users would be able to feel it. Then, with a gut feeling, he suggested something to Rei.
“You still got those glasses that see through illusions right? Might be handy... just to be safe.” he said, not expecting there to by any there, but who knows with old magical structures, they had the habit of holding on to fragments of the past.
He continued to look at the walls wondering what it was like in its prime.
There was so much we have forgotten, magics that last through the ages, while today it is almost impossible, entire enchanted castles, that would take a whole team of mages to enchant and even then they would probably die. We need to look toward our past more.

Rei, slightly surprised as realization hit, reached into the loose animal skin pouch that dangled from her waist at her side. "Yeah, actually, I do think I brought those alon- ah-ha! Here we go." Smiling with satisfaction, Rei bought her hand back with the Sunglasses of Revealing clutched in its grasp. She grinned down at the purple, bead-rimmed glasses and went back to the memory of receiving them; that was the first time she had met Rhyme. Something clouded behind her sky blue eyes. It was also just before the time she had lost control of herself in the Graveyard... Blinking rapidly, Rei refocused herself and put on the glasses. "Woah..." she murmured. The dark tint it covered everything with made the whole place seem... well, darker. Rei scanned the area quickly. "Um... nothing here..." Deciding she wasn't comfortable with things so dim, Rei removed the glasses and let them hang from the collar of her shirt.
After a moment of slow wandering, Rei paused and peered into the shadows. "Are those..." There was an odd shape in the darkness. "...stairs?"

Rhyme squinted into the darkness, trying to see past the gloom as Rei put on the glasses and looked. When she said that she didn’t see anything he relaxed a bit, feeling the tension leave his shoulders and upper back.
“Good Good.”
When she said that she saw a set of stairs, he had to squint again, he couldn’t really see anything there, but Rei’s eye sight was better then his own.
“I don’t know, give me a sec.”
He held out the hand holding the orb of light as it shrunk slightly. The darkness closed in slightly around with the reduced light but then suddenly two additional orbs appeared throwing out long moving shadows all around them. He then with a flick of his eyes sent an orb flying toward the area Rei referred to. It was a staircase, carved from the stone with ornate carving all along the bottom and tops. The light showed that it went to a second floor, which could not be seen well from their current angle.
“I can’t believe this survived.” he said with awe.

Rei, equally awestruck, mumbled out a simple "Yeah..." in response to Rhyme's statement. Cautiously, she approached the old stairwell. Her fingers reached out to touch it, gliding delicately along its rough surface. It must be very strong, to have survived such tests of time. Standing at its side, Rei placed her hands gently on the steps and leaned forward a bit, peering up into the shadows of the apparent second floor. "Well..." she began quietly. "Time to make our first decision." Rei surmised, talking to Rhyme without being able to draw her gaze away from the darkness above. "Do we ascend or keep on solid ground?" Either way, there were pros and cons. Stay down in the vast, open area, exposed to everything but near an easy escape route. Go up where the space is most likely more secure, but risk getting even more lost than they could where they were now.

“Hmm...” he said, trying to see past the darkness of the room above but unable to. Giving a sigh he took a few steps back and forth, shifting his weight back and forth on his heels.
“I would have to say up, we can set up a greater defense there and if we do get attacked, at least we won’t be attacked from all sides. And I got some tricks up my sleeves for traps.” he said with a grin.
He was thinking of setting up a network of musical tripwires, that would alert them if anyone approached. That would make it easy for them to get ready for an attack. They could start a fire up there too for warmth and light.
“I think we should start collecting firewood now though.” he said as he began to pick up twigs and dry grasses, which were few and far between but still there.

Rei, after another moment of staring up into the darkness, blinked and walked a bit closer to Rhyme. "Alright that sounds like a good idea." Smiling a bit, the girl's eyes scanned the surrounding area. Taking a slow breath in and then out, Rei headed opposite the way Rhyme was begun his own search for wood.
It wasn't long before the light Rhyme had created was no longer a comfortable distance away. Doing her best to stay calm and ignore the odd ache in her stomach and head, the Shape-shifter closed her sky blue eyes and seemed to focus on something unseen. Moments later, the girl's eyes slid open to reveal two, almost glowing, crimson orbs. Feeling much more comfortable and satisfied with the infrared vision these eyes gave her, Rei continued on her way, slowly increasing the distance between Rhyme and herself. The tune she had been humming turned into a haunting melody as her mood shifted with the surroundings. Noises scratched at her senses, but she managed to stay calm.
However, like all things even slightly frightening, everything just starts to get creepier and creepier. It wasn't long before Rei had to quickly return to Rhyme's company, blinking to return her eyes back to normal. With slightly irregular breaths, Rei smiled nervously. "This is all I could find down that way." she stated, holding out a fair sized armful of decaying wood and other burnable substances.

“Good, that should last us a decent time period. Lets get up there and look around.” he said as he took his sticks and grasses up the stairs, being careful where he stepped after stumbling a few times on the crumbling stairs.
The room was pitch black when he got up there, the only beam of light showing from the steps not going past the far wall. Sighing, Rhyme dropped the wood in the center of the room in the light and cracked his fingers. He then cracked his neck and gave the place a good looking over. Last, he slowly raised is arms toward the walls and hummed up the scale listening class. When he found the right pitch he let out a soft but clear D flat, it seemed to reverberate off the walls of the room.
From his fingertips his classic ribbons appeared. The went around and hugged the walls, casting their faint glow upon the room. They went all around the 4 walls, casting the whole room in light. The walls were covered with frescos of old gods and goddesses. They were all sitting around the room, staring within. There was nothing left within the room to tell what it was used for thought it was clearing something religious.

Rei eagerly followed Rhyme up the crumbling stairway, waiting until he was off of it before stepping on; there was no telling how much weight the old structure could support at one time. But the time she had reached the second floor, Rhyme had just begun humming the D flat. Fascinated, as always, the girl watched quietly as the golden ribbons snaked their way along the wall and illuminated the room. It really was a breathtaking sight, once completed. Smiling, Rei added her gathered wood to Rhyme's pile and knelt down beside it. "Fire now, or fire later?" Actually, the later they could risk building up a decent flame, then the less likely it would be that their burning supplies would run out, which meant there was less of a chance that they would have to go back down for more fuel.
((*plans to draw out every little conversation* >3))
