Katana’s legs pushed her forward in the shipyard, but her heart felt uneasy. The damp air pushed its way through her hair in almost a forceful manner, knowing that it would cause her to shiver underneath her petticoat. Her light blue eyes scanned the area before her as if expecting for something to jump out as a challenge. The area around her felt as if it was abandoned long ago, but the presence of something else was lingering around. Taking a deep breath through her mouth she emitted a half hearted smile as if to allow herself to believe that this was just her imagination running off with her again. Her steps led her to a boardwalk and made her stop with a halt. Katana didn’t know she had to cross this to get to the other side where the forest was! Panic rose inside her chest as she stretched out her foot to test the stability of the wood. After a few taps and some of her weight, she decided to take a few steps. Breathing shallowly, Katana began to take her time walking across the boardwalk as it creeked and groaned under pressure. Beads of sweat trickled down her face when she realized she was halfway there. Little taps of her heels walking along the wood would have been a direct way to get someone or something’s attention right? As soon as she thought the words, a low groan echoing off one of the ships traveled the short distance and straight to her ears. Without any hesitation or second thought she began to run the length of the boardwalk. Tears of fear beaded down her flushed cheeks as she thought this would surely be her demise. Before she knew it, the boardwalk had ended and she hit the dirt of the forest at an alarming rate and her heels sank into the soft dirt. Crumbling down to the ground in one giant mess, Katana took a deep breath and let out a small laugh.
“ I made it… “

"No one's taken that path in a while." A voice sounded from not too far to the side of her, one low and with a spice of mirth just short of teasing. "Most cannot see it, did you know?" Two calf-hugging, pale leather shoes walked around and paused in front of her, for their wearer would not want to tax her eyes by drawing them at strange angles.
And what a strange owner he was. Pants dark, his vaguely militaristic coat was a dusky shade of orange, and his every movement spoke of some deep and unbreakable confidence.
Since Katana had sojourned to the floor, he crouched down to better continue. Hair the color of aged ivory, quite messily cut, framed a mostly pale face, the exception being a dark spot about the size of a fist around his right eye. Both of them, incidentally, the eyes that is, were large and dark, reflective as volcanic glass, and trained on Katana with such an intentness that it might have even been alarming to some.
"Katana Elaine, you really are perfect! You have no idea how excited I am to meet you!" Now satisfied with a glimpse of her face, he stood again, gesturing with his words. "Now you must ask a question, any question, but only one. If it's a good question, I'll have to answer in kind. Good questions never have a real answer."
Whoever he was, he sure enjoyed talking, and it was painfully obvious that the idea of Katana not complying with his whims, despite the strangeness of the situation, had not at all crossed his mind. Everything about him seemed to whisper that he expected full obedience from his aquaintances, in the way that the grass expects morning dew.
